You can make all your routing templates out of 1/4 inch mdf or plywood. Drawing them vertically is better for both left and right handed players, though. I have to say my tele's and strats, over 10 years now of playing guitar, 97% of the time i reach for these two styles, they bring everything to the table i want when playing. Right now i'm focusing on trying to make drawings that you can use for building and making templates, and drawing them up like actual blueprints, where needed.

Perfect free cardboard for making templates/patterns i made a great discovery, my local sams club has great cardboard sheets about 48x48 and the perfect thickness to.
